Welcome from A Dirty Hippie
Welcome to the ramblings of one Dirty Hippie. I actually feel a bit dirtier than usual because for a month or so I’ve been smack dab in the middle of the midwest, doing some remodelling work on my house in Des Moines, Iowa. Not only is remodelling a pretty dusty and dirty affair, but I wasn’t expecting to be out here for this long. As such I travelled here with only a backpack (albeit a larger than usual backpack, just not your backpackers backpack) and so I’ve been having to cycle through the minimal amount of clothes I brought along. Compound this with the fact that the washer isn’t yet hooked up and some of those clothes are seeing a 2nd and 3rd reuse. So I’m definitely a bit more dirty of a hippie than usual.
Normally I reside in the quasi hippie capital of the U.S., San Francisco (and I use the term quasi for good reason as it’s actually getting fairly overrun by suburban yuppies. And in San Francisco I tend to live life in a way that one would expect a dirty hippie to live life. I live in a “communal” style household with 6 other roommates. We regularly get food donations from the Food Not Bombs folks. We have a few couches and numerous floor spaces where many a world traveller has found a place to rest. We can be found spending many a late night discussing the esoteric intricacies of life. We celebrate the counterculture for all it’s worth. Luckily San Francisco still (pretty much) allows you to do that.
I make art, I DJ, I make music, I make love. I protest that which I feel isn’t right. I celebrate those things that add beauty and value to this world. I attempt to keep my impact on this planet at a minimum. I live. Like a dirty hippie should.
Please join me in the experience and share your world with me.
